March 25, 2020 - WBTF has officially postponed the WBTF European Cup in Blanes, Spain and the 35th WBTF World Championship in Riccione, Italy.

The events have now been postponed to the summer of 2021

The WBTF Managing Committee met today to finalize plans going forward.  Present at the conference: Sandi Wiemers, Nicky O’Neill, Paul Rutten, Jeff Johnson, Moto Tsuchiya, Paola DeMarchi, Jackie Stewart, Jean Michel Ruelle, and Karen Cammer.

The managing committee had previously reviewed the country surveys in advance of today’s conference and noted there was an overwhelming consensus that the 2020 Euro Cup (Blanes) and the 2020 35th World Championship (Riccione) could not be held as scheduled, but should be re-scheduled in the future.

Unfortunately, the 2020 season is lost but we want to give our athletes the opportunity to complete under the same conditions as 2020 in 2021.

This means the 2021 European Cup and 2021 35th World Championship will continue to use the 2020 age calculation rule (age as at Dec 31 2020).

The 35th World Championship will now take place in 2021 - August 5-8, in Riccione, Italy.  We are awaiting confirmation of the dates of the European Cup in Blanes, Spain.

Arrangements are now pending to move the IBTF NATIONS CUP / WORLD BATON TWIRLING CHAMPIONSHIP to be held in Liverpool forward to another year.  Announcement will be forthcoming soon.

We understand the disappointment to all of the athletes and coaches, but our sport is certainly not alone in this matter.

If we all do our part in adhering to the requests from our medical and governmental authorities we will get through this crises sooner than later.  The COVID-19 pandemic affects all of us, young and old alike.  We’re all in this together.

We are …………  #APARTBUTTOGETHER !!    Let's celebrate WORLD BATON TWIRLING DAY together online on APRIL 10TH bigger and better than ever.

In the meantime, stay home to stay safe and stay well.
