About the Clinican

Maureen Johnson founded the Martin School of Dance and Baton Twirling in 1953 and has over 60 years experience in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Acro and Baton Twirling.

Maureen’s baton twirling students have represented Canada at the World Championships each year since the first WBTF World championship in 1980. Their international successes include participation in WBTF World Championships, the International Cup and Grand Prix Events, capturing Gold medals in Junior and Senior Women, Junior and Senior Pair, Senior Men, and Team, plus many top ten finishes.

A highlight for her group, the Buffalo Gals is the winner of two Little Brown Jugs (AYOP) and the WBTF Team Gold in 1991.

Maureen has received lifetime achievement awards from the CDTA, and ADAPT for dance and the Canadian Baton Twirling Federation and was also inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame as a Builder for the sport of Baton.

Maureen is the CBTF Coaches Rep, a member of the CBTF Education Committee and represents Canada as the WBTF Technical Rep and member of the WBTF Technical Committee (ETC).

Maureen is very proud of the many former students who are continuing their passion for Dance, Acro and Baton Twirling as performing professionals, active coaches and judges, operating their own studios, or part of the innovative Acrobatic Arts, founded by former student Mandy Yip.

Maureen is pleased to be part of the ‘Twirl Nations ON DEMAND and is thankful for this opportunity to ‘give back’ to the next generation of athletes and coaches.
